Sometimes I think there isn't anyone co-ordinating the elements of Visual Studio

Small feature request for the next version of Visual Studio:   Include templates that generate code that will compile if the project has XML documentation and Treat Warnings as Errors turned on. It's not such a big ask, is it? I'm finding it especially irritating while adding ASP.NET pages that have no code in their code behind, yet I need to edit the damn thing anyway.

Don't use it just because you have it

I've lost track of the number of times I've encountered people using wildly inappropriate systems with which to build solutions. Sometimes this is because they are familiar with the system and apply it by default to everything (which I discussed in Generalists vs. Specialists). At other times this is because the system has already been purchased or is already available and there's a feeling that it's wasteful not to use it.
